D.A. Of The Day - 10.17

  • Doggy Bagged

A traveler on layover was separated from his leftovers -- by a clever airport K-9 who sniffed out an illegally stored pig's head in his luggage.
The Agriculture Detector dog, whose name is Hardy, found the crispy, crunchy contraband in a bag carried by a passenger coming in from Ecuador. The two-pound head was flagged by customs officials, who have banned pork products from dozens of countries because of concerns over the spread of hoof-and-mouth disease.
Authorities seized and destroyed the meaty morsel -- not offering a single bite to Hardy, which seems unfair. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  •  Wrong Portland

The city of Portland, Michigan is getting fed up with people posting angry messages on its police department's Facebook page and wants social media users to know that there are other cities in the country named Portland.
The city of only 3800 people has been receiving complaints on Facebook about Portland, Oregon. The city manager posted a PSA on the page saying, "We steadily receive highly inappropriate complaints and messages clearly not directed at our PPD and certainly not reflective of our residents." It goes on to say that the complaints are "in no way affiliated with the Portland Police Department of Portland, Michigan."
Most of the complaints involve civil unrest and protesters shutting down streets in Portland, Oregon. (WXMI-TV)

  •  Nude Dude Intrudes

A Florida man gave new meaning to the term strip search -- by stripping naked before searching for a house to break into.
Tito Turono was taken into custody after a woman called 911 to report that she'd been awakened by knocking at her bedroom window before getting roused from bed by the sight of a nude man entering the room. The victim yelled for her husband, who was in the shower, and he came out to punch the man in the face -- chasing him to another apartment.
Cops found Turono belligerent and smelling of booze. He refused to put on shorts and threatened to fight the officers before being subdued. (TC Palm)
