D.A. OF THE DAY - FRIDAY, JULY 22ND

WEIRD NEWS: Hammered In Homeroom

A drunken school teacher in Florida has been placed on probation after she walked into her second grade classroom smashed out of her mind.

Holly Joel pleaded no contest this week to a charge of disrupting an educational institution. The incident occurred back in March when she arrived to work noticeably drunk and slurring her speech. A fellow teacher made the right decision to tell the principal and call police. The principal asked her stand up, and she fell to the ground. She had no idea what day of the week it was and could barely speak. She was also carrying a water bottle filled with a pink liquid that cops say was alcohol.

Joel was arrested in front of the kids and hauled off to jail. She was subsequently fired.

WEIRD NEWS: Thieves, Trains and Automobiles

A couple of thieves in Virginia swiped a car and led police on a high-speed chase, but they weren't faster than a speeding locomotive, and that's exactly what it took to stop them.

Police say the pursuit began Wednesday night when officers spotted the car, which had been reported stolen. They gave chase and followed at a very high speed until the thieves drove right into the side of a train. Officers rushed to pull them out of the car before it burst into flames. They were both injured and taken to the hospital, where they are in stable condition.

The train was undamaged and allowed to continue. Charges are pending against the car thieves.

WEIRD NEWS: Cops Mistaken for Strippers at Birthday Party

A couple of police officers in Germany will have a great story to tell for a long time after they responded to a noise complaint at a woman's 50th birthday party and were mistaken for male strippers.

As soon as the officers arrived at the scene, they were cheered by the crowd of women. After realizing that the women thought they were strippers, they attempted to explain that they were actual cops -- but no one believed them. It wasn't until someone looked outside and saw the patrol car that they finally wised up.

But even though the officers kept their clothes on, they were still a big hit at the party. Women hugged them and posed for pictures with them. In the end, the officers got the birthday girl's phone number -- for their report, of course -- and asked everyone to keep the noise down.
