THE HOTLIST - MONDAY JUNE 6TH

JOHN OLIVER: FORGIVES $15 MILLION IN MEDICAL DEBT:

A bunch of people have a huge burden off their shoulders thanks to late-night comedian John Oliver.

The British commentator made TV history and decided to shed some light on the debt-collection industry by forgiving $15 million in medical debt. And it wasn't difficult. He set up a dummy corporation in Mississippi and spent about $60,000 acquiring the outstanding debt. He then tore up the bills.

Oliver explained the whole thing last night on his show Last Week Tonight, saying, “Debt-buying is a grimy business and badly needs more oversight, because as it stands, any idiot can get into it. And I can prove that to you because I am an idiot and we started a debt-buying company. And it was disturbingly easy.”

MUHAMMAD ALI: DAUGHTER OPENS UP ABOUT LOSS

Muhammad Ali's daughter Laila Ali is opening up about the loss of her father. While she's sad about his loss, Laila says she's been mentally prepared for it for many years.

Speaking on the Today show, Laila said it was hard to watch her father suffer for so many years and takes comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering. She added that he must have fought as hard as he could because death was something the champ was afraid of and never would have wanted to move on. Muhammad Ali died Friday at the age of 74. A public memorial will be held for him on Friday in Louisville, Kentucky.

FOX ISSUES APOLOGY:

Fox has apologized for an ad for X-Men: Apocalypse that showed Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse character choking Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique. An uproar began on social media last week with actress Rose Mcgowan leading the charge. She criticized the studio, writing, "There is a major problem when the men and women at 20th Century Fox think casual violence against women is the way to market a film."
